Some individuals are strongly one type. These are pure Vata (air) or pure Pita (fire) or pure Kapha (water) types. Mixed types occur as when two or more dosas stand in equal proportion Three different dual types exist as Vata – Pita (air- fire), Vata-Kapha (air-water) and Pita-Kapha (fire-water). An even type in which all three dosas are in balance or VPK type, is also found, making seven major types in all.

We will note which dosha you check the most; this will usually indicate your constitution (though it may take time for the constitution to be realised depending on your diet, lifestyle, environment and any medications. Also remember that every when you fall clearly into one category, you will have unique characteristics. These types are a basis for more specific treatment and should not be turned into stereotypes.
